Biography

Chris McCreight is the Democratic, Working Families Party, and Affordable & Safe Party candidate in Assembly District 46.[1][3] According to his campaign website, he ran a record store for fifteen years before working for New York City Council members and in the State Assembly, and he is a Democratic district leader.[1] He won a contested June 2026 Democratic primary after losing to incumbent Alec Brook-Krasny in the 2024 general election, 48.0% to 51.6%.[2][3]

According to his campaign website, McCreight is the son of a public high school teacher and a librarian, and he played college basketball.[1] After college he opened a record store that he says he ran for fifteen years, and his website describes him as a former small business owner.[1] He then worked as Communications and Policy Director in the New York State Assembly before joining the City Council.[4][1] Per his campaign website, he worked for more than two decades for Bay Ridge City Council members, naming Justin Brannan, Vincent Gentile, and Sal Albanese, and he was Brannan's chief of staff for eight years.[1][4]

McCreight is currently Senior Advisor to Councilmember Kayla Santosuosso.[4][1] He serves as a Democratic District Leader for Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights, Coney Island, Brighton Beach, and Sea Gate, and says he helped found the Bay Ridge Democrats with Justin Brannan and Joanne Seminara.[1][4] He ran for this Assembly seat in 2024 as the Democratic nominee and lost to Brook-Krasny, 48.0% to 51.6%.[3] In 2026 he defeated Joseph Santangelo in the Democratic primary, 64.2% to 35.5%.[2]
