A seventh-generation Texan and attorney, she describes graduating from Loyola Marymount University on a debate scholarship and earning a law degree from UC Davis. She is campaigning on food and housing assistance, health-care access and government accountability.[1]

Shepard describes herself as a seventh-generation Texan and a third-generation Central Texan, and she graduated from Midway High School.[1] She earned a bachelor's degree from Loyola Marymount University in 2003, where she says she went on a debate scholarship after discovering a passion for public policy debate in high school.[1] She earned a law degree from the University of California, Davis School of Law (Martin Luther King Jr. Hall) in 2007, and Ballotpedia lists her profession as attorney.[1]

Shepard placed second in the March 3, 2026 Democratic primary with 32.4% of the vote.[2] She won the May 26, 2026 runoff over Jamilah Flores, who had withdrawn but remained on the ballot, 59.9% to 40.1%.[1][2]
