Biography
Calvin Sandoval is the Democratic candidate for the Nevada State Senate, District 20, in the November 3, 2026 general election, in which he faces Republican Danielle Gallant.[1][3] A plumber and pipefitter who grew up in Las Vegas, he said in a Ballotpedia survey that he is an enrolled member of the Omaha Tribe of Nebraska and is seeking to become Nevada's first Indigenous state senator.[2]
Calvin Sandoval graduated from Cimarron-Memorial High School, and Ballotpedia lists his profession as plumber.[1] In a Ballotpedia survey, he said he grew up in Las Vegas and has spent more than two decades working in the trades, including at the Nevada Test Site and on Las Vegas Strip properties such as Wynn and Palazzo.[2] He described himself as a husband, father and third-generation union member.[2]
The Democratic primary for the seat on June 9, 2026 was canceled, and Sandoval advanced to the general election.[1] He said his experience led him to favor clearer, more practical laws, including simplification of the workers' compensation system, and that he uses independent judgment rather than following a party position.[2] He listed workers' compensation reform, fair labor standards, workforce training, infrastructure, healthcare access, mental health, affordable housing and tribal sovereignty among his policy interests.[2]
