Caitlyn Gegen

Caitlyn Gegen is the Democratic nominee in Georgia's 9th Congressional District. She describes herself as a community organizer with experience in local government, raised by public-school-teacher parents, and a University of Georgia graduate who also studied at the London School of Economics. She won the May 19, 2026 Democratic primary and says she is running on protecting human rights, affordable living, and universal healthcare.[1][2]

In her Ballotpedia Candidate Connection survey, Gegen says her parents were public school teachers and that her sister is a labor and delivery nurse in Georgia; MainStreet Newspapers reports that both parents taught in Gwinnett County Public Schools. She says she grew up performing active-shooter drills in school.[1][3] She describes herself as a "proud Double Dawg" and recipient of Georgia's HOPE Scholarship, and Ballotpedia lists a bachelor's degree and a graduate degree from the University of Georgia. According to MainStreet Newspapers, she graduated in 2021 with a bachelor's degree in international relations and a master's degree in public administration.[1][2][3] She then studied at the London School of Economics, earning a degree in 2022 according to MainStreet Newspapers, and lived in London, which she says gave her experience of a different form of government and social safety net.[1][2][3]

Gegen began working in politics in 2018 on a congressional campaign, according to MainStreet Newspapers, which identified her as a Suwanee resident when she announced her run. She says her experience as a community organizer and in local government has prepared her to run for Congress, though she does not list specific employers or roles.[1][3] She won the May 19, 2026 Democratic primary for the seat, defeating Nick Alex 60.0% to 40.0%.[2]
