Biography
Cabot Nelson is the Utah Forward Party candidate for Utah House of Representatives District 23 in the November 3, 2026 general election, in which he faces Democratic incumbent Hoang Nguyen and Republican Franklin Robinson.[1][2] A consultant who has run for the Utah House several times before, he said in a 2024 Ballotpedia survey that electoral reform is his main priority.[2][3]
Cabot Nelson was born in Utah and earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Utah in 1996.[2] His career experience includes working as a consultant, and in a 2024 Ballotpedia survey he said he works in financial technology as a compliance consultant and delivery engineer.[2][3] In that survey, he said he is a lifelong Utahn who has lived in Salt Lake City's Sugar House neighborhood for 25 years and is the father of two boys in local public schools.[3]
Nelson was a candidate for Utah House District 25 in 2018 and 2020, losing both general elections to incumbent Joel Briscoe.[2] He then ran in District 23 in 2022, when incumbent Brian King won, and in 2024, when Hoang Nguyen won.[2]
In the 2024 survey, Nelson said his key message was electoral reform, including permitting fusion candidacies and replacing plurality voting with ranked choice or another alternative.[3] He listed inequality and universal basic income among his other policy interests.[3]
