Biography
Bruce Roy is a retired Air National Guard colonel and IBM engineer who is the Republican candidate for the Vermont State Senate in the Chittenden Southeast District in the November 3, 2026 general election.[1][2][3] He ran for the same seat in 2024 and for the Vermont House in 2022, and in a Ballotpedia survey he said he supports Governor Phil Scott's affordability agenda and wants to control government spending and the tax burden.[2][3]
Bruce Roy said in a Ballotpedia survey that he is a long-time Vermonter who graduated from Essex Junction High School and the University of Vermont, and that he served four years on active duty in the U.S. Air Force.[2][3] He then joined IBM as an engineer while continuing to serve in the Vermont Air National Guard, and he said he had 30-year careers at both, retiring as a colonel in 2008 and from IBM in 2013.[3] He also described serving on the Essex School Board and teaching for ten years at the Community College of Vermont, and said he has lived in Williston since 2001.[3]
Roy was the Republican candidate for the Vermont House Chittenden 2 District in 2022, finishing third with 17.4 percent in a two-seat race won by Erin Brady and Angela Arsenault.[2] In 2024 he ran for the three-seat Chittenden Southeast State Senate district and received 15.0 percent of the vote, behind the three Democratic winners.[2] In his 2026 survey he listed priorities including education finance reform, a lower tax burden, controlled government spending, business growth and a reasonable and affordable approach to environmental protection, and he named Governor Phil Scott and former Governor Jim Douglas as endorsers.[3]
