Biography
Brad Little is the incumbent Republican governor of Idaho, seeking a third term. A rancher by background, he served as a state senator and lieutenant governor before being elected governor in 2018 and re-elected in 2022.[1][5] As governor he signed the 2025 Idaho parental choice tax credit, a Medicaid cost-containment law that he said does not reject the voters' Medicaid expansion, and a 2022 income-tax cut.[2][3][4]
Little was born and raised in Emmett, Idaho, on his family's sheep and cattle ranching operation.[1][5] He graduated from the University of Idaho in 1977 with a Bachelor of Science in agribusiness and ran the family's ranching operation.[1][5]
Governor Dirk Kempthorne appointed Little to fill a state Senate vacancy in 2001, and he served in the Senate until 2009.[1][5] Gov. Butch Otter appointed him lieutenant governor in 2009, and he held that office until 2019.[1][5]
Little won a crowded Republican primary and was elected governor in 2018, taking office on January 7, 2019.[1][5] He was re-elected in 2022, defeating Democrat Stephen Heidt and independent Ammon Bundy.[1] He married Teresa Soulen in 1978, and they have two sons.[1][5]
