Biography
Berleen Wobeter is the Democratic candidate for Iowa House of Representatives District 53 in the November 3, 2026 general election, running against incumbent Republican Dean Fisher.[1][3] In a Ballotpedia survey, she said she is a lifelong Tama County resident who farms with her husband and has worked in education.[2]
In a Ballotpedia survey, Wobeter said she was raised on a small family farm in Tama County that grew row crops and livestock and operated an evergreen nursery.[2] She said she earned a degree in Family and Consumer Science Education from Iowa State University and spent much of her career in education, including work with the South Tama County Community School District, the Meskwaki Settlement School and, for 15 years, as a vocational trainer for adults with disabilities.[2] She also said she has served her community through her church and farm organizations and has advocated for family farmers at the State Capitol and with Iowa's congressional delegation.[2]
Wobeter said she is running because people deserve a representative who listens, and that she would listen first, ask questions and work toward practical solutions.[2] She listed supporting Iowa's public schools, with education funding that keeps pace with inflation, among her key messages, and said she also cares about family farms, local control, affordability and mental health services.[2]
