Biography
Annie Gehring is the Democratic candidate for the New Hampshire House of Representatives, Carroll 4, in the November 3, 2026 general election.[1][2] A retired teacher and reading specialist from Wakefield who sits on the Wakefield School Board, she said in a Ballotpedia survey that her priorities include property taxes, the education funding formula, affordable housing and health care costs.[3]
Gehring earned a high school diploma from Smithtown East High School, a bachelor's degree from Long Island University-Southampton College in 1982 and a graduate degree from the University of New Hampshire in 1996.[2] In a Ballotpedia survey, she said she has lived in Wakefield for 43 years, having arrived in her mid-twenties to raise her three children, and that she retired after more than 30 years of teaching, including 25 as a reading specialist in the Governor Wentworth Regional School District.[3] She said she has also worked as a classroom teacher and interim principal, currently serves on the Wakefield School Board and the Wakefield Heritage Commission, works part-time as a library media specialist and volunteers at the Wakefield food pantry.[3]
Gehring said in the survey that she was a registered Republican until around 2009, then became an independent, and joined the Democratic Party in 2016.[3] She said she would work to fix the education funding formula so property taxes go down, support affordable housing options for young adults and seniors in Carroll County, and pursue health care that is affordable and accessible.[3]
