Biography
Angela Nelson is the Democratic candidate for Minnesota State Senate District 35 in the November 3, 2026 general election, running against incumbent Republican Jim Abeler.[1] An elementary school principal, she said in a Ballotpedia survey that she is a lifelong Coon Rapids resident.[2]
Nelson graduated from Coon Rapids High School, earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Minnesota, Duluth, in 2000, and holds a graduate degree from Hamline University.[1] In the survey, she said she is the mother of two teenagers and has spent her career in public education.[2]
Nelson listed lowering costs for families, affordable and accessible health care, and a healthy environment as her main campaign messages, including free public preschool for four-year-olds and broader MinnesotaCare coverage options.[2] Her Democratic primary was canceled, and she advanced to the general election without appearing on the primary ballot.[1]
