Andrew Sneed

Andrew Sneed is a Huntsville small-business owner and the Democratic nominee for Alabama's 5th Congressional District. A Huntsville native and Boston University graduate, he worked in New York restaurants before returning to Alabama and training as a plumber; he founded a mechanical-contracting company in 2019. He has not previously held office and says he is running on affordability, health care, and government-accountability reforms.[1][2]

According to his campaign website, Sneed was born and raised in Huntsville, the son of a local attorney and a school teacher and administrator. He grew up on the family farm outside town and in Blossomwood, and he graduated from Lee High School in 1998.[2][1] He earned a BFA from Boston University in 2003 and spent seven years in New York City working in the restaurant business before returning to Alabama in 2010. Ballotpedia lists his past work as including acting, stunt work, bartending, farming and restaurant management.[2][1]

At age 32, Sneed started over as a $10-an-hour plumber's helper, and over about seven years he worked up to master plumber and gas fitter, according to his campaign website. He founded his company, Whole Home Solutions, in 2019; his website says it has six work trucks and seven employees, while his Ballotpedia survey says a team of eight.[2][1] He is married and, according to his campaign website, the father of three daughters.[2]

Sneed entered the 2026 Democratic primary for the 5th District. No candidate won a majority on May 19, and he advanced to a June 16 runoff against Candice Dollar Duvieilh, in which the Alabama Democratic Conference endorsed him. He won the runoff with 78.4% of the vote.[3][1] He has described a "Balance / Accountability" pledge that includes term limits and a prohibition on stock trading in Congress.[2][1]
