She previously ran unsuccessfully for New York City Council District 5 in 2025 and is running on public safety, tax relief and economic growth.[1][2]

Bonsell says in her Ballotpedia Candidate Connection survey that she came to the United States as a child when her family fled the Soviet Union as Jewish refugees; in an earlier survey response she said her family immigrated in 1989, when she was a small child.[2] She earned a bachelor's degree from Hofstra University.[1] She describes approximately 20 years of professional experience in the pharmaceutical, biotech and healthcare private sectors, though an earlier survey response gave 15 years.[2]

Bonsell describes herself as a mother and a 20-year resident of Manhattan's East Side.[2] In 2025 she ran for New York City Council District 5 on the Republican line and lost to incumbent Julie Menin, 73.7% to 26.0%.[1] She advanced without a primary opponent in the June 2026 Republican primary for State Senate District 28 and also holds the Block Mamdani Party line.[1]
