Biography
Alexandra Zakhvatayev is a write-in candidate with no party affiliation for Florida's 19th District. A Southwest Florida journalist and communications professional, she founded Kyiv Free Press while reporting from Ukraine. Her survey responses emphasize constitutional freedoms, a free press, national defense and support for Ukraine.[1][2]
Zakhvatayev's Ballotpedia profile lists her high school as Kellenberg Memorial High School and Cardinal Mooney High School, a bachelor's degree from Florida Gulf Coast University in 2015, and a profession in communications.[1] She describes herself as a journalist and communications professional who has worked in American politics and reported from Ukraine, where she founded Kyiv Free Press to document Russia's war.[2] She is a mother of three and a U.S.-Italian dual citizen.[2]
In her survey responses, Zakhvatayev says America should not end the status of Ukrainians and others lawfully admitted under humanitarian parole without a humane alternative, and that dual citizenship should not be a barrier to serving in Congress.[2] She also calls for protecting a free and independent press and for increased defense spending and investment in military technology.[2]
