Alan Nolan

Alan Nolan is the Republican candidate for the Washington House of Representatives, District 6-Position 1, in the November 3, 2026 general election, running against Democrat Michaela Kelso.[1][2] He is a member of the Mead School District school board and, according to his Ballotpedia survey, a retired Air Force lieutenant colonel who owns a design/build construction business.[2][3]

Nolan earned a bachelor's degree from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1992 and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1992 to 2015.[2] In a Ballotpedia survey, he said his 23-year career included flying combat search and rescue and special operations helicopters, F-16 and CF-18 fighter aircraft and the T-6 trainer, and that he commanded a flying squadron before retiring as a lieutenant colonel.[3] He said he moved to Spokane with his wife and three children in 2015 and opened a design/build construction business, and that he has served on technical advisory groups that write the state's energy code and on the Spokane County Planning Commission.[3]

Nolan has served on the Mead School District school board, representing District 2, since 2023; his term ends in 2027.[2] He said he defeated a 25-year incumbent in the 2023 school board race and that the board has since ended a financial emergency declaration, balanced its budget and approved new curriculum.[3] He advanced from the August 4, 2026 nonpartisan primary in second place, with 26.1 percent of the vote behind Kelso.[2] In the survey, he said the state budget, taxes and business regulations should be reduced, and that housing production should be encouraged by expanding buildable land, reducing building code requirements and changing zoning laws.[3]
