Biography
Ajay Gupta is the Republican candidate for the Illinois House of Representatives, District 41, in the November 3, 2026 general election, facing incumbent Democrat Janet Yang Rohr.[1][2] An attorney and professor, he says his priorities include pension reform, changes to Illinois' pretrial detention rules and limits on state spending.[1][3]
Ajay Gupta earned a graduate degree from Yale University in 1990, a law degree from Harvard Law School in 1993, and a graduate degree from Stanford University in 1997.[1] His career experience includes working as an attorney and professor.[1] In a Ballotpedia survey, he said he has more than 30 years of experience practicing and teaching tax, securities and criminal law.[3]
Gupta advanced from the Republican primary on March 17, 2026.[1] In the survey, he said he would push a constitutional path to stabilize Illinois' pension systems and have the state assume teacher-pension costs, reverse the SAFE-T Act's pretrial policies so high-risk defendants can be detained pending trial, and tie appropriations to inflation and population growth while opposing new tax increases.[3]
