Biography

Dean Roy is the Freedom and Unity Party candidate for governor, a party he created. The Associated Press (via Fortune) described him in March 2026 as a freshman at Stowe High School and the first candidate for governor under age 18 on Vermont's general-election ballot.[1][2]

Basic profile — the most important sourced facts we found.

Dean Roy, who has said his political ambitions started in the eighth grade, worked as a legislative page at the Vermont Statehouse.[1] He says he does not identify with either major party and names housing as the most important issue facing the state.[1]

Roy secured his place on the general-election ballot by creating the Freedom and Unity Party.[1] Vermont's constitution sets no minimum age for gubernatorial candidates and requires only that they have lived in the state for four years.[1] He has said, "I don't expect necessarily to win," but that he hopes to start a movement that brings more young people into politics.[1]
