Governor of Oklahoma

Statewide — all of Oklahoma

General election · Tuesday, November 3, 2026

Sources re-checked October 19, 2026 · How we research

  • Open seat: Republican Gov. Kevin Stitt is term-limited. Oklahoma governors serve four-year terms and may serve eight years in total.[1][2]
  • Republican primary (June 16, 2026): Attorney General Gentner Drummond led the first round with 26.3%, ahead of former state Sen. Mike Mazzei (26.0%), Chip Keating (18.5%), Jake Merrick (14.5%) and Charles McCall (11.8%). Mazzei won the August runoff, 50.3% to 49.7%.[1][3]
  • Democratic primary: House Minority Leader Cyndi Munson won with 74.9%, ahead of former state Sen. Connie Johnson (22.3%) and Arya Azma (2.8%).[1]
  • Oklahoma's lieutenant governor is elected separately, not as a running mate: T.W. Shannon (R) and Kelly Forbes (D) are on the ballot for that office.[3]
  • Three independents also appear on the ballot for governor: Robert E. Brooks Sr., Orlando Lynn Bush and Jerry Griffin, as listed by the State Election Board.[12][2][3]

Issue evidence — side by side

Recorded votes, documented positions and candidates’ own words are shown with sources. “In their own words” quotes a candidate on the topic without inferring a stance. Votes describe specific bills or motions; they do not establish overall support or opposition to a broad issue. A dash means our research has no evidence on that topic, not that the candidate has no position.

Research notes & limits

The slate was checked against the Oklahoma State Election Board's 2026 Candidate List Book (candidate filing, official): governor filers were nine Republicans, three Democrats (Munson, Arya, Connie Johnson) and three independents (Griffin, Brooks, Bush). Primary and runoff results come from Wikipedia's tabulation of the Election Board's results; News 9 (October 6) lists the general-election field as Mazzei (R), Munson (D) and the three independents. Oklahoma elects the lieutenant governor separately, so there are no running mates. Ballotpedia blocked automated access. Mazzei's campaign website could not be loaded; his priorities and abortion position come from News 9's candidate guide, and the bill records from the Oklahoma Legislature's bill pages (2006 session). Munson's record is House third-reading roll calls checked against the official oklegislature.gov vote pages; her 2025 votes are not in the snapshot. The three independents have minimal public footprint; their occupations (farmer, former Tulsa school board member) come from Wikipedia. Munson's tax position is marked mixed because she opposes broad income tax cuts but proposes no tax increases. Update: Brooks's positions come from the plan pages of his campaign site (votewethepeople.com); his entry is now 'basic'. Bush and Griffin have no public issue statements found.
