Attorney General of Ohio

Statewide — all of Ohio

General election · Tuesday, November 3, 2026

  • The Republican primary was uncontested: Keith Faber was the only Republican on the May 5, 2026 ballot (698,856 votes). In the Democratic primary John Kulewicz defeated Elliot Forhan, 63.1% to 36.9%.[1][5]
  • Incumbent Attorney General Dave Yost, a Republican, resigned in May 2026 before the end of his term, so the winner will be the first newly elected occupant of the office since 2018.[2]

Issue evidence — side by side

Recorded votes, documented positions and candidates’ own words are shown with sources. “In their own words” quotes a candidate on the topic without inferring a stance. Votes describe specific bills or motions; they do not establish overall support or opposition to a broad issue. A dash means our research has no evidence on that topic, not that the candidate has no position.

Protect legal access to abortion

  • Keith Faber
    In their own words[3]
“And I’m a pro-life guy. But I think the voters spoke on that. And until the constitution is amended, it’s going to stop a lot of what you can do.”

In an interview with Signal Ohio, asked whether Ohio's six-week abortion ban violates the 2023 reproductive freedom amendment

  • John Kulewicz
    In their own words[4]
“With the constitution as my client.”

Asked by Signal Ohio how he would approach defending Ohio's abortion laws as Attorney General

Stricter gun laws

  • Keith Faber
    In their own words[8]
“preserve the Second Amendment rights of Ohioans”

On his campaign site's "Meet Keith" page

  • John Kulewicz

Research notes & limits

Slate: the Ohio Secretary of State's certified candidate list could not be loaded (the site returned a bot-check/403), so the two-candidate slate rests on Ballotpedia and Signal Ohio's October 7, 2026 report; Ballotpedia notes its list 'may not be complete'. No independent or third-party AG candidate was found. Neither candidate has held the office, so no record items for Kulewicz (a city councilor; no council votes were reviewed). Faber's campaign conviction/finding counts are campaign claims, cited as such. Neither candidate's positions map directly onto the fixed issue statements, so only verbatim statements are shown.
