Attorney General of Michigan
Statewide — all of Michigan
General election · Tuesday, November 3, 2026
- The seat is open: incumbent Democrat Dana Nessel is term-limited. The Michigan Bureau of Elections' candidate listing for the November 3, 2026 general election names six candidates: Eli Savit (Democratic), Doug Lloyd (Republican), Jeff Polonowski (Green), Jason Dye (Libertarian), John Perry Ludtke Jr. (U.S. Taxpayers) and Doug Dern (Natural Law).[6][1]
- All six were nominated at party conventions rather than a primary; the state listing records filing dates of August 31, 2026 for Savit and Dern, August 24 for Lloyd, August 3 for Polonowski, July 20 for Ludtke and June 29 for Dye.[6]
- Allegation, not a finding: in April 2026 a complaint filed with the Michigan Department of State by Bob Labrant, an attorney and former leader with the Michigan Chamber of Commerce, alleged that Savit improperly used a Washtenaw County-provided gas card for campaign travel. Savit's campaign said the county compensation package allows him personal use of a county vehicle and called the complaint meritless; the campaign also said he would voluntarily reimburse the county for gas purchases since launching his campaign. The source does not report any finding or outcome.[5]

Issue evidence — side by side
Recorded votes, documented positions and candidates’ own words are shown with sources. “In their own words” quotes a candidate on the topic without inferring a stance. Votes describe specific bills or motions; they do not establish overall support or opposition to a broad issue. A dash means our research has no evidence on that topic, not that the candidate has no position.
