Biography

Mike Minogue is a former biotech executive who led the heart-pump maker Abiomed for nearly two decades and is a first-time candidate. He won the Republican nomination with 75.6% of the primary vote. His 'Blueprint for a Better Future' centers on accountability, affordability, opportunity and keeping communities safe, including audits of the Legislature and state budget, tax cuts, ending enforcement of the MBTA Communities Act and canceling the state's net-zero emissions mandate.[1][2][3][4]

Basic profile — the most important sourced facts we found.

Minogue is a West Point graduate and Army veteran who was awarded a Bronze Star for his service in Operation Desert Storm in 1991.[2][8]

He later led Abiomed, a heart-pump and medical-device company, for nearly two decades until Johnson & Johnson acquired it in 2022.[2][8]

Minogue is a first-time candidate for public office. He won about 70% of delegates at the April 2026 state Republican convention and the Republican nomination in the September 1, 2026 primary, and faces Gov. Maura Healey in the general election.[2]

In their own words

Priorities

  • Accountability: auditing the state Legislature and the entire state budget with an outside auditor, and creating a 'Massachusetts Spending Dashboard.'[5]
  • Affordability: cutting taxes, temporarily suspending the state gas tax when prices climb, and cutting state-mandated energy utility fees.[5][6]
  • Keeping communities safe: protecting qualified immunity for law enforcement, ending cashless bail and not allowing Massachusetts to become a sanctuary state.[6][7]
