Governor of Connecticut

Statewide — all of Connecticut

General election · Tuesday, November 3, 2026

Sources re-checked October 19, 2026 · How we research

  • Incumbent Democratic Gov. Ned Lamont is running for a third term.[1]
  • Lamont won the Democratic Party's convention endorsement over state Rep. Josh Elliott, 74.6% to 25.4%, then won the August 11 primary 67.9% to 32.1%; he was the first incumbent governor to face a primary since Ella Grasso in 1978.[1]
  • State Sen. Ryan Fazio won the Republican convention endorsement on May 16 with about 92% of delegates after former New Britain Mayor Erin Stewart suspended her campaign; former New York Lt. Gov. Betsy McCaughey fell short of the 15% needed to force a primary.[1][23]
  • Only Lamont and Fazio appear on the general-election ballot with party lines. Write-in campaigns by Christian Noe and Zenobia Adgers are listed for governor, and Politics1 also lists Lee Whitnum as a write-in.[1][14][22]

Issue evidence — side by side

Recorded votes, documented positions and candidates’ own words are shown with sources. “In their own words” quotes a candidate on the topic without inferring a stance. Votes describe specific bills or motions; they do not establish overall support or opposition to a broad issue. A dash means our research has no evidence on that topic, not that the candidate has no position.

Protect legal access to abortion

  • Ned Lamont
    Supports[3][4][5]

Signed a 2022 law protecting patients who travel to Connecticut for abortion care and the providers who treat them, which his campaign calls the first such law after Roe v. Wade was overturned.

  • Ryan Fazio
    —

Stricter gun laws

  • Ned Lamont
    Supports[4][6]

His campaign says he cracked down on ghost guns, banned open carry and expanded safe-storage requirements; he signed the 2023 Act Addressing Gun Violence (Public Act 23-53).

  • Ryan Fazio
    —

Expand immigration enforcement and deportations

  • Ned Lamont
    Opposes[3]

Campaign materials cite expanding the state's TRUST Act and barring federal immigration agents from wearing masks or making warrantless arrests inside Connecticut courthouses.

  • Ryan Fazio
    —

Loosen zoning rules to build more housing

  • Ned Lamont
    —
  • Ryan Fazio
    Mixed[9][13]

Voted against the 2025 housing growth act (HB 8002), calling it flawed overall; his housing plan proposes streamlining permitting and incentivizing small-scale housing such as accessory dwelling units, but also rolling back HB 8002 and Section 8-30g to protect local zoning control.

Raise the minimum wage

  • Ned Lamont
    Supports[4]

His campaign cites raising the minimum wage to $15 per hour with automatic annual increases tied to inflation.

  • Ryan Fazio
    —

Universal, publicly funded child care

  • Ned Lamont
    Mixed[2][4]

Priorities include universal pre-K and expanded affordable child care; his campaign describes moving toward free child care for families earning under $100,000 and capping costs for all families rather than child care free for all.

  • Ryan Fazio

Research notes & limits

Running mates (Susan Bysiewicz, Matt Corey) are elected jointly with the governor candidate and are noted in each candidate's ballotNote rather than listed separately. The slate was confirmed against official Connecticut Secretary of the State sample ballot (Westport): the governor race shows only two tickets, Lamont/Bysiewicz and Fazio/Corey, each on two party lines; the party-line names (Democratic, Working Families, Republican, Independent Party) come from Wikipedia's results table because the ballot text does not extract. Declared write-ins (Noe, Adgers, Whitnum) are not listed as candidates. Fazio's roll-call votes were read directly from the Connecticut General Assembly's Senate vote PDFs; bill titles and signing dates from the General Assembly's bill-status pages.
