Basic profile — the most important sourced facts we found.
Allen is a Colorado native who grew up in the Denver area and enlisted in the U.S. Navy after high school.[1] His campaign says he served eight years in the Navy as an Aviation Electronics Technician.[2] He later earned an undergraduate degree from the University of Northern Colorado and a law degree from the University of Kansas.[1]
Allen has worked in prosecution for more than 20 years, beginning as a law-school intern in 2004.[1][2] Early in his career he prosecuted consumer-protection cases in the Kansas Attorney General's Office.[1][2] He was elected District Attorney for the 4th Judicial District, which covers El Paso and Teller counties and is the state's largest judicial district, in 2020 and re-elected in 2024.[1][2][3] He has also served as president of the Colorado District Attorneys' Council.[1]
As district attorney, Allen's campaign says he created an Organized Crime Unit and launched a motor vehicle theft team, and that his office prosecuted the Club Q shooting case as a hate crime.[2] He defeated David Willson in the Republican primary on June 30, 2026, and faces Democrat Jena Griswold in the general election.[1][3] Allen and his wife, Heidi, have been married for more than 30 years and have two sons.[1]
