Biography

Dave Bronson is a Republican, a retired Air National Guard lieutenant colonel and commercial pilot who served as mayor of Anchorage from 2021 to 2024 and later managed Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport. He supports a constitutional amendment mandating Permanent Fund dividends by the pre-2017 formula and describes data centers as an economic opportunity.[1][2][3]

Basic profile — the most important sourced facts we found.

Bronson was born and raised in Superior, Wisconsin, and earned a B.S. in agricultural economics from the University of Wisconsin–Madison.[1] He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1981 to 1990 and in the Alaska Air National Guard from 1993 to 2005, retiring as a lieutenant colonel, and has worked as a commercial pilot since 1990.[1]

Bronson won the Anchorage mayor's office in a May 2021 runoff and served until 2024, when he lost re-election to Suzanne LaFrance.[1][2] In January 2025, Gov. Mike Dunleavy appointed him to manage Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport, and he announced his resignation from that job in August 2025.[2] He announced his run for governor on October 2, 2025.[1][2] The Alaska Beacon describes him as an experienced pilot.[2]

Priorities

  • Increase spending on infrastructure and the Permanent Fund dividend, including a constitutional amendment to mandate a dividend by the formula used from 1982 through 2016.[5]
  • Encourages data centers, saying he sees economic opportunity in them.[6]
  • Public education: aims for top-10 national rankings in 4th- and 8th-grade reading and math within 10 years, with school choice and workforce pathways (the AK 10/10 Plan).[4]

Statements, quoted without a stance

  • Faster transition away from fossil fuels
“We will pursue an all-of-the-above infrastructure strategy that delivers reliable power, lower costs, and energy security for all Alaskans—urban, rural, military, and commercial.”[7]
